Senior Citizen Police Academy Coming in Spring 2018

Marblehead Council on Aging recently announced in their January 2018 newsletter that the organization will be initiating a Senior Police Academy in the Spring of 2018.

The Senior Police Academy will be known as, Senior Citizen Police Academy or (SCPA). The program will last approximately 7-8 weeks, meeting once per week for two hours.

The goal of SCPA is to provide seniors with a better understanding of law enforcement, with the program being taught by members of the Marblehead Police Department (MPD).

Topics during the sessions include:

  • The history of Marblehead Police Department
  • Modern policing
  • Criminal law and procedure
  • Traffic enforcement and investigations
  • ... and much more

The program will also include outings to the Marblehead Police Station, Essex County House of Corrections, and Lynn District Courthouse.

It is beneficial for seniors to prioritize socialization for the numerous benefits to health that it provides. Some benefits can include: Reducing the risk for major diseases including reducing cognitive decline*.

Applications for the program are now being accepted, we would like to help spread the word for those who may be interested in the Marblehead and North Shore Community!

For questions regarding the program and application, please contact Janice Salisbury-Beal at the Council on Aging 781-631-6225.
