Winter Fun at Marblehead Memory Cafe
On Tuesday November 13th, Right at Home Boston North’s Marblehead Memory Cafe featured guest activity presenter, Donna Acone, Engagement Director from Residence at Vinnin Square in Swampscott. Residence Inn at Vinnin Square offers independent, assisted and memory care living options servicing the Swampscott, Lynn, Nahant, Salem and Marblehead communities.
This month’s activity featured a winter fun sock snowman craft. It is an easy peasy no-sew activity for all. Donna brought in her supplies, such as socks, robbins, rice, glue, buttons, string and other fun goodies, for a life-like snowman look. Our guests enjoyed creating something fun with their caregivers and loved ones and smiles were in abundance.
How it works-- First you take a regular sock and fill the sock up with rice. Once the sock is filled with the rice to your liking tie the top with a rubber band or string and cut the loose ends. Take a second rubber band or string and tie in the middle creating a top and bottom creating a snowman body. Next glue buttons on the lower side of the snowman. Now for the face, draw eyes, a nose and mouth with a black marker. Here you can use a marker, button, pom pom or ribbon for the nose (depending on how creative you want to get!). Add a ribbon around your snowman's neck to act as a scarf and cut the toe section of an extra sock to make a hat and wa-lah!
In addition to the snowman activity, we also served refreshments such as homemade oatmeal raisin cookies, donuts and fresh coffee.
“Thank you so much to Right at Home for the opportunity to participate in the Memory Café today,” said Joyce Leavitt, Director of Business Development for The Residence at Vinnin Square.
Our cafe meets the second Tuesday of the month at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church from 1:00pm-3:00pm. We ask that all guests must be accompanied by a caretaker for those that require personal care assistance. Our next cafe will meet on Tuesday, December 11th and will feature an activity presenter from Seasons of Danvers. We will be performing a festive activity along with holiday themed refreshments such as: hot cocoa, coffee, gingerbread cookies and other goodies. The December Cafe will be our last cafe until the Spring of 2019-more details to follow.
