New Year’s Resolutions for 2021

Do you make New Year’s Resolutions?

Many people prepare them every year and resolve to lose weight, make more money, exercise more, and well, you get the idea. Their intentions are good!

But making resolutions is just the beginning. Much more important is creating a detailed plan on HOW you are going to execute your resolutions and make certain that they are “sticky.”

Here are three things you should consider when making your resolutions for the year ahead:

Are your resolutions achievable?

Making resolutions that are extremely difficult to accomplish can sabotage your best efforts at seeing the resolutions come to fruition. A better strategy, and one that will have a more successful outcome, is to establish resolutions that indeed require some work, but are not such a big “reach” that the chances of success are very slim. If you find that success was easy to accomplish, you can recalibrate and establish a more aggressive goal. It’s a far better approach than feeling discouraged.

Consider having an “accountability partner.”

Keeping to task with your resolutions can be tough and an accountability partner can help keep you motivated and focused on the outcome and not on the discomfort that may be involved in getting there. Half the battle is having the commitment to stay the course and having someone to help you along the way is a great incentive. It can be especially helpful if you’re assisting them with their resolutions as well.

Small steps can lead to the much bigger end result.

Consider this example - it’s unrealistic to think that you will be able to run a Marathon if you have never run before, and while doing a marathon is a great resolution, breaking down the steps it will take it do the run is the best way to make the resolution a reality.

Small action steps can bring you closer to your goal and should be part of your success plan on how you will accomplish your “big” resolution.
