Bernice Enjoys Her Right at Home Caregivers

Bernice's Story

Bernice Dercks grew up in the Freedom area and moved to Little Chute after getting her beautician license, and had her own business, right off Main St. for many years: Bernice’s Beauty Shop. Some know her by her nickname, “Neep,” which is what her brothers call her. She met the man that was going to be her husband, at “Lefty’s” in Little Chute on Pine St.

She married Roger Dercks, and had 2 sons, Rick and Scott. They lived in Little Chute on Main St., and then later moved to Lincoln Ave. in Little Chute. Both of her sons still reside in Little Chute today; (Her son Scott currently lives in the house that she raised her kids in, Years later!) Roger worked for Kimberly Clark. Bernice was married to her husband, Roger, for 47 years before he passed away.

Bernice has been a busy Grandma, having 7 grandchildren over the years.  Her oldest grandchild, Morgan is an RN at Theda Clark Hospital on the Birthing Floor.  She lives with Bernice now, and helps to provide care for her as well, when she is not working.

Bernice and her Caregiver MaryOne of Bernice’s Best Memories is truly spending time with the family up at the family cottage in Lakewood, WI.  She and Roger loved going up to their cabin in Lakewood with the Family Since her son, Scott now owns their place up north, it is still a special place to go.

She loves to gamble, play slot machines, and play cards as well.

After retirement from Bernice’s Beauty Shop, Bernice worked in the office at Victor Allen’s Coffee in Little Chute.

When asked about her favorite food, we were told that she LOVES the “Bird Melt” from Rico’s in Kimberly. She orders the same thing every time she goes. The Bird Melt is- Turkey, American Cheese, Tomato & Bacon on grilled sourdough- She orders it every time she goes to Ricos which is quite often.  She goes with her “special friend” Jim.

Bernice’s family first called Right at Home for additional help and care for her, as a family friend was also involved in taking care of her but needed more help.

When asked about her care with Right at Home:  Do you enjoy your caregivers from Right at Home? - “Yes, They take very good care of me.” She said she especially likes Mary!
