Alzheimer’s and Dementia awareness training
September 20, 2016
Today the Right at Home office of Brooklyn, represented by Walter Ochoa, Carol Amandola and Paula Hayes, presented their Alzheimer’s and Dementia awareness training to the local Bay Ridge AARP Chapter No. 3630 in the Shore Hill Senior Center in Brooklyn, New York.
The meeting, hosted and conducted by its chapter president Peter Killen, featured Right at Home and its Alzheimer’s and Dementia awareness training. In this training, the chapter members learned about the roots of the Alzheimer’s disease, as well as the different behaviors that a person with this disease exhibit based on the disease’ development stage and the patient’s personality.
Seven out of ten people with Alzheimer’s live at home, where almost 75% of them receive the care from family or friends of the patient. This can lead to high levels of stress from both sides the caregivers and their patients therefore affecting their quality of care. Teaching them to ask for help before caregiver burnout or depression was highlighted in this presentation and we are pleased to see that the advice was very well received.
Experts agree that training and education is key to help caregivers to provide better care. Right at Home is committed to keep educating family caregivers, facility caregivers and our own caregivers to improve the quality of care of those suffering from this disease.
