My Innovation Experience
I was fortunate enough to be invited to participate in what is called an “innovation experience” with some of my colleagues at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids as well as other members of the community who have experience or insight into working with people experiencing dementia. This “innovation experience” took place over four consecutive Friday mornings where we gathered via Zoom to navigate through a process to design the future Adult Day Program (although we ultimately don’t want to call it this!) offered through the Chris and Suzy DeWolf Innovation Center for Aging and Dementia, currently under construction in NE Cedar Rapids.
It was humbling and exciting to be included in the development process for something that is so needed for people living with dementia and their caregivers in our area! The goal has always been to offer engaging opportunities for this population, tapping into individual interests and finding their joys while making them affordable and accessible for all. This design process is far from over, but it feels good to have started it and I look forward to seeing the program come to fruition knowing I helped to make it happen!
