Healthy Aging Month Interview on WDEF News Now 12
Right at Home Chattanooga staff member Ryan Fugate recently met with WDEF CBS News 12 NOW to give tips for aging well during Healthy Aging Month 2018.
Ryan's interview focused on the things you can do now to help you stay around for a long time. The WDEF team asked Ryan when people should begin thinking about health habits that can help them to age well.
"Right now, no matter what age you are. I'm in my thirties and I'm already starting to think about it."
Ryan said you can look at how to age healthy by thinking of three pillars of health - physical, mental and emotional. He offered a couple of quick tips in each of these three areas.
Physical Activities
- Exercise 30 minutes per day
- Manage your diet with healthy beverages and portion control
Mental Stimulation
- Read More Nonfiction Books
- Do Crossword Puzzles and other things that activate your mind
Emotional Support
- Stay in touch with family and friends
- Maintain and grow ties with church, nonprofits or other social organizations
Remember Emotional Health Is Important
Ryan noted of the three pillars of aging well, maintaining social networks and support is probably the most overlooked area that can help everyone to age with grace.
Exercise Is For Every Age
The segment closed by highlighting how physical activity doesn't have to become a thing of the past as people grow older.
"There's some amazing ninety year olds out there , that I just pray that I'm as active as they are when I'm that age" - Ryan Fugate
