Located in SLC, and opened in 2015, The INN Between is the first and only hospice for the homeless in Utah and one of only a few in the country. The mission is to provide a safe and comfortable place where Utah’s terminally ill homeless men and women can experience the end of life with dignity, receive professional hospice services and be surrounded by compassionate people who care. The 15 bed home provides healthy meals and snacks, toiletries and personal care items, clothing, bedding, and laundry service. The staff and volunteers provide transportation to medical appointments, companionship, and emotional support.

Since hospice is a home based service, it was previously unavailable to homeless individuals. With The INN Between, the homeless can have a safe environment where hospice agencies can deliver care to the homeless.

Compassion at the End of Life

Their goal is death with dignity. Residents tell them that The INN Between is the first place that they have felt save and loved in years or decades. The INN make every effort to reconnect the residents with estranged family members in order to rebuild relationships and heal old wounds before it’s too late. When a resident passes away, The INN Between posts an obituary on their website, place a name plaque in their Memorial Garden and hold a community memorial service. They experience about one death per month.
