Southeast Region Caregiver of the Year, Fletcher Hester
Congratulations to the Southeast Region Caregiver of the Year, Fletcher Hester!
Every year, each Right at Home location can nominate caregivers for consideration for national caregiver of the year. Not only is Fletcher Hester our Right at Home Durham-Chapel Hill caregiver of the year, but also the recipient of the Southeast Caregiver of the Year award for Right at Home nationally (1 of 4 regional winners). At 83 years old, caregiver Fletcher Hester’s desire to keep learning and keep growing is unmatched. After a career in the armed forces then later with the postal service, Fletcher began working as a companion for Ken Helmuth’s Durham-Chapel Hill, NC office. Over time, Fletcher took it upon himself to learn personal care skills and can now work with any client who he is assigned to. As a mentor to new employees, Fletcher’s knowledge, experience and calm approach to care also serves as a model for his colleagues. When describing Fletcher’s impact on his business, Ken Helmuth writes about a client’s family that paid Fletcher’s weekly salary so that they could ensure that Fletcher wouldn’t be assigned to another client while their loved one was away for a month. Ken writes, I cannot say enough about Fletcher’s phenomenal character, approach and attitude in everything he does.
A Few of the Praises of Fletcher's Care
“Fletcher was always kind and willing to do anything he could to make Bob feel less like a patient and more like a friend. Fletcher never left our home without saying to me, "I live close by so if you need help with ANYTHING, please call me". He worked with Bob till the end of his life on March 22, 2018. He truly became part of our family and still keeps in touch with me. Thank you, Fletcher!!” Janie, wife of previous client
“On a greater note, since becoming involved with taking care of Dad, Fletcher has always been very concerned with Dad’s health. This level of expertise creates a person whose role exceeds the position of a standard caretaker. Fletcher has a desire to provide a service that you would expect a caring family member to provide.” Rodney, client
“What an amazing man! Empathy. Respect. Consideration. Loyalty. Patience. These are just some of the qualities that Fletcher possesses. To retire and begin a new professional career wanting to help others as a Caregiver is just further testament to the kind of person Fletcher is. There’s a word for that—Extraordinary.” Pam Williamson, Director of Operations
