Right at Home - Caring for Adult Children

Finding care for your adult children

Right at Home provides caregiving services for just about anybody that is of at least 18 years of age, including adult children. With several examples to choose from, here are just a few of the ways Right at Home has been able to help:

One example here recently was a young adult about 20 years old who had some cognitive diagnoses that made it difficult for them to hire “just anybody” to stay with their son while away. Physically the young man was fit and could walk and talk with no hindrances whatsoever. It was simply safest to always make sure he was supervised with someone interactive. Fortunately, they got in contact with Right at Home where they were matched with a great caregiver that met every need they were hoping for. The young man enjoyed the company of his caregiver – they would go for walks, play games, cook together, and do household chores together. Meanwhile the parents were able to use those visits in order to tend to personal matters that had come up.

A second example involves a young adult and her parents. The parents had been helping their adult daughter recover from a bad car accident. Severe injuries left her with limited mobility, and she ended up being confined to a power chair. The parents have taken it upon themselves to care for their daughter but this could only go on for so long before needing professional assistance. They got in touch with Right at Home to help out a couple times per week with tasks such as bathing, toileting, feeding, safety/supervision, and companionship – which was enough to allow them the freedom to use that time as they needed without having the worry or stress on their shoulders.

When people in the community hear or say Right at Home, they automatically think of caregiving for the elderly. Although the elderly population is whom we primarily serve, the examples above are a great reminder that Right at Home does much more than just that.
