Giving Back to Those Who’ve Given So Much: Right at Home’s Community Initiative for Veterans
Over the past seven weeks, our team at Right at Home has embarked on a heartwarming journey, partnering with local businesses to collect home goods for veterans transitioning back into civilian life. This initiative was organized by Heidi Nyvoll and Shana M. Willis from Right at Home Englewood, Kim Spencer from Brookdale Senior Living-Port Charlotte, Dana Scott from Amedisys Home Health Care, Jim Ahearn from SBG Insurance Group, Amanda Meltzer from Sun Harbor Healthcare, Janice Parmalee & James Hemingway of the Florida Department of Health and Bert's Black Widow Harley-Davidson. December 6th 2024 marked a significant milestone as we had the honor of delivering these generous donations to Veterans Village in Punta Gorda. The outpouring of support from our amazing community has been nothing short of inspiring, and we want to take a moment to thank everyone who contributed. Your efforts are truly making a difference in the lives of our veterans.
A Day to Remember at Veterans Village
Arriving at Veterans Village, the team brought donations in trucks and uHauls. The donated items, which range from household essentials to comfort goods, are not just physical items; they represent the collective love and appreciation of a community that recognizes the sacrifices made by our veterans. Each item carries a message of support, reminding our heroes that they are not alone as they navigate their new lives.
We also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Sam’s Subs and Soups for their generous donation of delicious subs for the veterans. Your contribution not only provided nourishment but also showed our heroes that they are supported and valued by our community. Thank you for being an integral part of this initiative! We're especially grateful to Wink News for coming out to cover our story. Your commitment to highlighting local initiatives helps shine a spotlight on the crucial work being done for our veterans. With your help, we hope to inspire more members of our community to get involved and support those who have served us.
A New Beginning: Helping Hearts For Heroes
Initially, our home goods drive was planned as a one-time event, but witnessing the tremendous support and energy from our community has filled us with inspiration. We are excited to announce that we are in the process of establishing a new nonprofit organization, “Helping Hearts For Heroes.” This initiative aims to expand our efforts, providing even more resources and support to veterans in need. Under that umbrella we plan to continue to do our "Home-Goods for Heroes" drive twice per year with the hopes of being able to continuously serve the veterans at Volunteers of America of Florida's - Veterans Village as they participate in their program and transition into their own homes.
Currently under review by the Florida Secretary of State, Helping Hearts For Heroes will focus on creating sustainable programs and services that address the challenges faced by veterans as they reintegrate into civilian life. We believe that with the right support and resources, every veteran deserves the opportunity to thrive.
