Dianna Church Provides Extraordinary Care
Earns Right at Home Northwest Central Region Caregiver of the Year
Congratulations to Dianna Church from Right at Home Eugene, Oregon, on her recognition as the Right at Home 2023 Northwest Central Region Caregiver of the Year! Dianna, a veteran, works for office owners Ed and Carol Mosman. She was selected from thousands of other caregivers for her exemplary commitment to making a difference in the lives of her clients and team members.
Last year, a lightning strike started a forest fire just miles from the small mountain town where Dianna and one of her clients lived. Her client, a U.S. Air Force veteran, had limited mobility and used oxygen 24/7.
As the fire continued to advance, the town was ordered to evacuate, but Dianna was ready to put the veteran’s personal needs and safety first.
On her own time, Dianna arranged for her client to stay in a motel in another town. She transported her client, his oxygen generator, back-up oxygen tanks, and his personal effects to his motel room. She relocated to the same town as her client and stayed with relatives during the evacuation period. Dianna checked on the veteran daily. She brought him food, did his laundry, and made sure his oxygen tanks were full. Most of this work was done on her personal time. The evacuation lasted about 10 days before Dianna and her client could return safely to their homes.
When the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) learned of Dianna’s above-and-beyond care for a fellow veteran, the agency compensated her for her extra time and commitment. For weeks, her caregiving story was shared throughout the VA.
Dianna’s compassion, selflessness and willingness to go the extra mile have made her a valued member of Right at Home and a beloved caregiver for seniors in the Eugene community.
Honoring Our Caregivers
National and Regional Caregivers of the Year are the highest honors awarded by Right at Home. Caregivers are nominated for their exemplary commitment to making a difference in the lives of their clients and teams. The winners are selected by a committee that includes Right at Home representatives and community professionals from outside health care, senior care and caregiving organizations. The award is presented annually during the organization’s conference.
