Right at Home Monterey Bay Celebrates 5 Years
Right at Home – Monterey Bay Area opened August 2013 with a simple foundational value and that is - a belief in the dignity and value of every person. Our mission is “To Improve the Quality of Life for Those We Serve”, but our mission is built up from this foundational value.
Prior to starting Right at Home, I had spent years in various corporate settings. All too often dignity and value seemed to be reserved for customers alone or whoever was paying the bill. Unfortunately, I found that some corporations acted as though employees, families, and other tangential associates were treated as a means to an end and not the end themselves. That is why I became so interested in starting something in which our values could drive the business process.
So, when we say “every person” that includes our staff, our clients, our clients’ family, our business partners, and referral sources. Our behavior and our processes are designed to demonstrate this value. For example, as an administrator in this business we emphasize with our Care Team that we, the Administration Team, exist to serve them, to make them successful in any way we can. This includes making sure people have the right information, at the right time, the right tools for the job, the right training, and easy access to our office staff if questions or problems arise. We believe that if we care for our staff they in turn will care for our clients.
Beyond our Care Team this value extends to our client’s and their families. We understand that proper care usually extends beyond the tasks we perform for the one needing help. It includes immediate and extended family members. Timely communication and transparency are common “tools” we use to demonstrate how we value families. For example, we are available by phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We provide online access for a loved one’s care plan in which family can see and communicate about the care being provided. Because this service is online they can access it anywhere, anytime. Therefore, even for family members that live far away they can be brought into the care process on an on-going basis.
In our 5 years we have had the pleasure of serving over 200 clients and their families, from Santa Cruz to Monterey and surrounding cities. We look forward to many more years of service and the blessing that comes from being able to live our values every day.
