Respite Care for the Caregiver
Respite Care for you, the family caregiver
Do you have a spouse that depends on you daily?
Do you spend at least a part of your day, every day, at your parent’s/grandparent’s house to look after them?
Whether you realize it or not, you are a caregiver. And a caregiver has several responsibilities, whether it be financial, legal, or custodial. Caring for another person can be challenging, and often times the caregiver will show signs of exhaustion, stress, and agitation because they are so focused on caring for their loved one. Below is a link to the Alzheimer’s Association website where they list the top 10 symptoms of caregiver stress, as well as tips to manage this stress including the staples of eating right, exercising, and meditation.

Notice the very first tip for managing stress in that article includes finding a local community resource. Although they didn’t use the word ‘respite care’, that is essentially what they are referring to. Respite care is basically a term for short-term care that is provided by someone else in order to give a break and some space to the family caregiver, relieving them from responsibility for a bit so they can re-charge their batteries.
