Senior Home Care vs. Assisted Living
Are things harder than they used to be? Things such as driving, grocery shopping, or self care? Is your loved one’s worried? Don’t worry, it’s completely normal, and doesn’t mean living independently and a good quality of life isn’t an option anymore. Since there is still a thriving senior population in America, means there’s a high availability of senior living and assistance services. So keep reading if you or a loved need a little extra help, and whether assisted living or home care is best for you.
In-Home Care:
If you created a routine for yourself within your home, you’d most likely rather stay within that schedule, and comfort of your own home. In fact, most senior do and so do their loved ones. So, if you want to stay in your own bed, in-home assisted living allows just that. You can stay at home and the professionals come you. But, how long they stay, and how they assist you depends on your specific needs. Typically, they will help with activities of daily living or ADLs. These include:
- Hygiene Assistance
- Meal Prep
- Medication Reminders
- Companionship
- Transportation
- Emergency Calls systems
In-home care can vary. There are levels of care: one person, and at times, several will come regularly, and the options usually include: licensed medical professional care, non-medical paraprofessional care, Alzheimer’s home care, and Dementia home care. But, if you need medical attention such as shots or therapy, you will need a medical professional, such as physicians, physician’s assistant, physical and or occupational therapists, and home health aides under the supervision of a physician.
Assisted Living Faculties (residential care, retirement home):
Now, with assisted living, you and or your loved one will go to the caregiver. Assisted living facilities offered are either shared or a private room in an assisted living community of seniors. The rooms could include a kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. But, it’s important to note that they are different from nursing homes. There is no constant supervision or medical treatment, but 24/7 help is always available. In addition, caregivers at ALF’s help elderly with day to day activities: bathing, dressing, medication management, meal services, and transportation as needed. But, housekeeping, laundry, physical therapy, and more memory care could cost extra.
So, spend some time with your loved one’s as to whether or not in-home care or assisted living is the right fit. Both are similar. They both help seniors age while staying as independent as possible. It’s important to choose what will keep everyone happy, healthy, safe, and without breaking the bank.
