What is Parkinson's Disease?
Parkinson’s Disease is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects dopamine-producing neurons in a specific area of the brain called “substantia nigra”. The cause remains unknown, although there is no cure, treatment options vary and often include medications and surgery. Despite that Parkinson’s itself is not fatal, disease complications can be serious.
Parkinson’s Signs & Symptoms
- Tremor(s): mainly at rest and described as a pill rolling tremor in hands.
- Bradykinesia: slowed movement over time.
- Speech changes: soft or quick speech. The person might slur or hesitate before talking. Limb rigidity or stiffness and inflexibility of limbs. Small handwriting.
- Loss of smell.
- Impaired posture and balance.
- Decreased ability to perform unconscious movements, including blinking, smiling or swinging your arms when you walk.

What does a typical Rock Steady Power Hour look like?
Rock Steady Power Hour uses boxing training to develop hand-eye coordination, endurance, footwork quickness, agility, flexibility, balance, and speed. There is no experience necessary and boxers begin training at their own fitness levels, but be prepared to challenge your body and mind!
- Warm-up:
Stretching, cardio and bodyweight exercises to warm up, loosen, and stretch muscles. - Bell to Bell:
Wrap your hands; put on your gloves! Box for eight 3-minute rounds with active rests between rounds. God through several stations, including the heavy bags, speed bag, double-end bag, and the ring. - Core Workout / Cool Down:
Using medicine balls and the heavy bag, work your core strength, the foundation for body wholeness.
