January 2019 Caregiver of the Month - Amel Gudeuta

Please join us in celebrating our January 2019 Caregiver of the Month, Amel Gudueta.

"Amel has been so dedicated to her clients. I can always count on her being at her shift, on time, and improving the lives of all of her clients!” -Lyndsey Franceschi

A NOTE FROM AMEL:

When I was growing up, I got to spend a lot of time with my grandma. I saw my mom take care of her and it made me want to care for others. Also, in my culture (Ethiopian Culture) there is a lot of respect for our elders and we feel it is our responsibility to take care of them. I enjoy helping others do what they are unable to do on their own. It makes me happy knowing they are cared for and find peace and relief from my work. It is great working for Right at Home. I get too meet all different kinds of people, and the office staff have been very supportive.

AMEL’S ADVICE TO CAREGIVERS:

Be patient and try to put yourself in the other person’s shoes as well. Sometimes we are the only person that person will get to interact with during their day so do your best to give them a pleasant experience. Always do the best you can.

Congratulations Amel! You are a real rock star!

Elizabeth Abear, October Caregiver of the Month

October 2018 Caregiver of the Month -Elizabeth Abear

When most think of a superhero, they imagine that a person with superhuman powers flying through the sky with a shiny red cape. Those are the great memories we all have from the movies and television shows from our youth. But, as we age, and real life comes into play, we begin to see who the real life superheroes are. It’s less likely that they are walking around wearing capes, and more likely they are walking around wearing scrubs.

They are the many faces of those called to become caregivers. They are the ones providing companionship, and quality care in the homes of those wishing to age safely in place. They might not be the first image that comes to mind when picturing that superhero that arrives to save the day, but they are the real image. They are the true superheroes.

Today we hope you will help us celebrate our October Caregiver Superhero of the Month, Elizabeth Abear.

“Elizabeth is very kind, caring, and dedicated to all of her clients. She rarely calls off and steps up when we need her. We are so lucky to have her on our team! “ -Lyndsey Franceschi

“Compassion for clients is the first step to a good performance. I just care for my clients as if there are my own.” Elizabeth Abear

Congratulations Elizabeth! Thank you for all you do!

Ron - June Caregiver of the Month

June 2018 Caregiver of the Month - Ron Shaw

As an Eagle Scout at 14 years old, I realized my purpose in life was to serve others. Every job that I've had since 16 -- has been serving others. Whether it was the restaurant business, being a tutor for at-risk teenagers in a college program, being a mentor within a group home setting or advocating for family members with loved one's living with mental health challenges, my passion has always been -- assisting an individual for improvement along their life journey.

With Right at Home, we are a nurturing team that enjoys Life. That was not the case with my 89 year old grandfather. I remember visiting him (this was in the late 70s) in an assisted care facility. There was no interaction, no activities. Everyone was lying in their beds, in wheel chairs - pushed up against the wall or sitting alone in the dining room. In brief, it was as if -- everyone was just waiting to die.

From my years with Right at Home, I have worked in both centers with other caregivers, observed their work at the Carlton, and heard feedback from my clients upon home visits. The ongoing feedback or observations are the fun times, the compliments for helping, or simply -- a smile.

"Right at Home truly extends the life of an older adult. I wish Right at Home would have been available for my grandfather."

In closing, my secret (please do not let this get out) or favorite saying, "How may I assist you -- today?" Said with a smile.

"Amber has been with us for a long time now and has grown so much as a caregiver. She shows great dedication to us and her clients and we appreciate her very much." - Lyndsey Franceschi (Director of Client Relations)

April Caregiver of the Month Jackie Kassis

April 2018 Caregiver of the Month -Jackie Kassis

"I started caregiving in 2000. That's when I went to school for my CNA license. I've been a caregiver now for 18 years. I became a caregiver because it is in me to care for people. I always knew I would be one. It gives you a feeling of accomplishment. My favorite memory during my caregiving career would be when I set up a surprise birthday party for one of my clients."

"I think the best part about caregiving is when you make a difference for the client. My favorite thing to do with my clients is going out shopping or maybe doing their nails. When it comes to being a caregiver, I would say to just be honest and try very hard to do your best. Try to understand what the client you are caring for is going through. " - Jackie Kassis

March Caregiver of the Month Tasha Keitt

March 2018 Caregiver of the Month -Tasha Keitt

"Since I was a little girl, I always told myself that I would take care of my elders. I have been a caregiver for almost 11 years. I am a good caregiver because I take pride in what I do and I make my clients feel loved and cared for." - Tasha Keitt

Quote: “Take pride in what you do, because at the end of the day, it will pay off” -Tasha Keitt

“She never calls off, she is always on time and professional. Our client’s love her and she works really hard to make sure her clients are well taken care of”  - Kayla Hudler Staffing Coordinator

Caregiver of the Month February 2018

February 2018 Caregiver of the Month - Luana Gauna

“Luana is always at her shifts, she never calls off, she steps in when needed, and her client’s and their families always say what excellent care she provides to them. What client’s have to say is always huge when making this decision.” -Kayla Hudler Staffing Coordinator

Her tip: "My tip of being a caregiver is making sure you are ready to start the day being happy and ready to work, and always making sure your care is 100%!"

"I’ve been a caregiver for 5 years. I got into caregiving through my family and friends. My favorite memory as a caregiver is always when I know I helped my client with their needs and seeing them happy after. I enjoy being able to provide for their needs and be a companion to talk to. My favorite thing to do as a caregiver is to be able to help make sure they get what they need. Just being able to talk, and being happy to see them when you walk in so they know you’re happy to see them too. I am a caregiver because I can help and be part of making sure their needs are met, and that makes me feel good. Keeping a smile on their face and letting them know that I’m happy to help always."

"I would recommend caregiving to anyone because you can really help people and see their needs met. It’s so rewarding and fulfilling. I love being a caregiver because I care about people, especially when they aren’t able to do certain things. I can step up and for them and their family. Being a caregiver is a big role, we provide care and support to them when they are feeling down and can’t do for themselves. And that’s why I am who I am today and why I am a caregiver."

“Caregiving is all about being able to care for your clients, and making sure they’re taken care of first” -Luana Gauna

Caregiver of the Month January 2018

January 2018 Caregiver of the Month - Bess Jett-Key

“Bess works hard and is always at her shifts. She helps out when we are in a pinch and you can tell she really loves what she does, and it pays off” -Kayla Hudler Staffing Coordinator

Her tip: "Work hard and always do your best."

"The best part of caregiving for me is the satisfaction of knowing my clients are well taken care of and enjoy my presence. I would recommend caregiving as a career to other people. It is very rewarding and satisfying at the end of the day. It isn’t something to be taken lightly though, you have to really work hard and take a lot of pride in what you do. A piece of advice I always give to other caregivers is to always treat your client with dignity and respect, the same way you want to be treated. A good caregiver has a good heart, has good intentions, and loves what they do and who they do it for." - Bess Jett Key
