Clam Chowder Cookoff at Colonial Gardens
Try the clam chow-dah!
Clam Chowder is a thick soup or stew made up of clams, fish, vegetables, potatoes, onions and other ingredients and seasonings. The broth is usually made with milk and/or cream to produce a thick consistency. Depending on where you live in the United States, the taste, texture and name can vary.
In the spirit of New England and North Shore tradition, Colonial Gardens Gracious Retirement Living Community, hosted their first ever chowder cookoff challenge event for the public, residents and local partners on Thursday May 3rd.
Acclaimed chefs from across the north shore were invited for a clam chowder cookoff competition. In total there were 6 chefs (including Colonial Gardens Chef) battling off to take the crown for best voted chowder. Judging criteria was based on taste, aroma, consistency and color. Each chef was also judged on their booth for a separate decorated booth contest. The booths consisted of tablecloths with decorations, chowder name and chef name.
Residents, prospects and judges were able to sample a variety of tasty chowders from local chefs and voted for their favorites. The four judges for the competition represented local businesses including Right at Home, Encompass, Beverly Fire Department and Elder Care Advocates.
“The event was a huge success, everyone was so happy. The competition was both enjoyable and delicious,” said Victoria Guskiewicz, Community Relations Coordinator with Right at Home.
