Why Our Care is Needed
Why She Needed Us
Jean’s family originally set up care from Right at Home as Jean returned home from St. Paul for rehab, after Jean had tripped outside and laid on the ground for several hours before someone had found her.She needed 24 hour care and it was going to be in her home!Over several months at home with care, Jean had gained so much strength that she was able to decrease the amount of support from RAH down greatly, saving money, but still having a safety net and stability for care:
for things like showers, meds and meals, as well as some help around the home.“RAH betters my life by assisting me with things like a shower and really giving me the opportunity to chat with someone… and that means a lot!” said Jean.
Jean loves her caregivers, and she gets a long especially great with Linda O. because, as Jean says, they are both jokesters. “We just “get” each other’s personalities and it is great companionship. I look forward to when I see Linda’s truck pull up the driveway!”
Jean’s team of caregivers all LOVED going there, because she has such a fun-loving attitude and enjoys their company as well, as much as they enjoy hers (which makes a job so much more enjoyable.)
Our Clients Impact Us!
Right at Home’s services are provided to care for those in need of some help, but yet, it is amazing how much we learn from our clients, and they impact us. Caregiver Linda O. said, “I love the interaction of talking with people like her.In a nursing home or CBRF, you don’t even have the time to talk. With her, I have the time to talk and laugh,” (and still get the job done), said Linda, Jean’s main caregiver.
“I love hearing the stories, of “back in the day”, Linda commented.Jean has so many stories to tell, it sure makes the time fly (too fast!).Jean grew up in Kaukauna and went to Nicolet School. Her parents moved them to the north side of Kaukauna, which, at that time felt like moving to another country! Her Mom grew up in Appleton and her Dad in Kaukauna. She took care of her Mom after her Dad passed away. She did a lot for her, and she lived until she was 90. Jean has 2 boys and a girl, but her daughter lives quite far away. She was married 56 years and her husband died 16 years ago from a heart attack while shoveling the driveway.
“I worked at Dick’s Drive-In in Kaukauna and was the first Car Hopp!” said Jean. I would bring the food out to the peoples’ car windows.
Linda said, “We still go to Dick’s Drive-In about once a week.”That is a hopping place yet, with really good food.“It is fun to /talk with her about the things in the area, we know and go to a lot of the same places.”
Jean then worked at Pea Canning Factory in Dundes, WI.And later, she decided to go to beautician school in Green Bay and was a beautician for many years, loving it…. Of course, because she is a people person.
Linda can really see her as a beautician, as part of that job is having fun with others!
Once Jean had her kids, she worked part time cleaning, and spent most of her time at home with children.
