Congratulations to Tammy Summers from Right at Home Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on her recognition as the 2023 Right at Home East Central Region Caregiver of the Year! Recently, a client went to the emergency room, but the family wasn’t available to help until the following day. Tammy chose to extend her current shift to be with the client. She later called the Right at Home office to request to stay with the client overnight so the client did not have to stay in the hospital alone.

Tammy called the family throughout the night and early morning hours to give regular updates about the client’s health so the family could make critical medical decisions once they arrived at the hospital. To the family’s surprise, Tammy returned to the hospital the following evening to check on the client.

“Caregiving is in Tammy’s DNA,” said Jackie Brewer, owner of Right at Home Winston-Salem. “She has the biggest heart and an overwhelming compassion for those in her care, especially for our clients with declining health who are in desperate need of our personal care.”

Tammy consistently provides extraordinary experiences for Right at Home clients in all situations and health conditions—from a client needing minimal assistance to a client requiring care and assistance at the highest level.

Tammy recommended adding more photographs around the home to the family of a client with memory decline. The client found great joy in looking at and talking to the pictures of the children and grandchildren. Another client’s love of gardening was brought back to life when Tammy expressed interest in the different types of flowers and asked the client how they grew and cared for the plants.

Tammy is just as dedicated to creating extraordinary experiences for the Right at Home care team, spreading good cheer, birthday wishes, and accolades, and being the biggest cheerleader for her fellow caregivers. She is supportive of the team when they need a helping hand. She has brought extra food to help her colleagues in need and has celebrated significant milestones in her peers’ lives. She truly believes and says, “We are here to be a blessing to others!”

“Tammy has an innate ability to bond and grow relationships with our clients and team in the most sincere and loving manner,” said Brewer.

Tammy’s compassion, selflessness, and willingness to go above and beyond have made her a valued member of Right at Home and a beloved caregiver for seniors in the Winston-Salem community.

Honoring Our Caregivers
