Proper Handwashing and Illness

Right at Home Woodstock provides in-home care and assistance to adults. As with any healthcare organization, having strong infection control policies in place are key to protecting our clients, caregivers and their families. One element of our Infection Control Policy is proper handwashing.

All new hires are trained and tested on proper handwashing procedures. Our Director or Nursing, Sandi Gault RN, continually reinforces handwashing training as she does routine visits in our client homes to observe these practices in action with our caregivers.

With a volume of messages circulating around methods to protect yourself against spreading or becoming infected with flu, and viruses, proper handwashing has stood out as a consistent message. Soap and water, along with proper handwashing technique, help to loosen germs that may be on your hands and wash them down the drain.

This downloadable guide walks you through the steps to properly washing your hands. It is a thorough outline that addresses all surfaces of your hands. Our hope is that providing this simple guide will serve as a valuable reminder to focus on proper handwashing during this time of concern.
