Right at Home Woodstock at the William G. Long Senior Center

About 15 seniors gathered on Wednesday at the William G. Long Senior Center in Woodstock, Georgia to try and get and jump on Spring! Led by Lori Bochat, owner of Right at Home In-home Care and Assistance, each participant created a beautiful wooden bunny.

Bochat likes to engage senior adults in the area in some creative endeavors. Bochat says, "it's good for the mind and the soul to create". Bochat has been a life long artist and crafter. Over the last few years she has participated in bringing creativity to senior communities. Her love for seeing seniors thrive was a driving force behind her partnering with her husband to operate a Right at Home agency in North Georgia.

The William G Long Senior Center is a thriving community of senior adults that are enjoying their time while engaging in activities that continue to strengthen them, mind and body.

The Bunny Project

This project is pretty simple and the steps are outlined below:

Step 1

Bunny project Step 1

Gather a piece of wood. I used a 2x6 cut into a 9 inch section.

Step 2

Bunny project Step 2

Paint the entire piece with white craft paint. Allow to dry thoroughly

Step 3

Bunny project Step 3

Once dry, slightly sand with low grit sandpaper. The goal is to remove the "just painted look" and expose the edges of the wood and some of the grain.

Step 4

Bunny project Step 4

Paint a small pink wooden heart pink for your bunny's nose

Step 5

Bunny project Step 5

Create whiskers by wrapping about 10 inches of think dark crafting wire around a round pencil. Once you have completed the wrapping, slide it off the pencil. Divide the coil into two equal lengths and then slightly stretch out.

Step 6

Bunny project Step 6

Place the two spread coils on the front of your bunny. The whiskers and nose should be about 1/3 from the top. Once you have the wires arranged crisscrossing each other, place a dot of hot glue on top of them in the center. Quickly place the pink heart in the center to form the cute little bunny nose with the sassy little whiskers coming out from each side.

Step 7

Bunny project Step 7

With a black sharpie, make two small black solid circles just above the nose. Then cut a 10 inch piece of wired burlap ribbon and tie a knot in the center. Hot glue the ears on the top edge of the block.

Step 8

Bunny project Step 8

Impress your friends and family by displaying your bunny in a nest, some grass and maybe place some little eggs around the base!
