September 2020 Champion of the Month, Joanita K.

Joanita has been a Certified home Health Aide (HHA) with RAH Boston Metrowest for one year!

“My inspiration to be a caregiver comes from my love for people, my children, and my previous work experience. I was a customer care advisor in my country and for the longest time, I solved people's queries and complaints over the phone, and I dealt with all sorts of customers - irate, happy and disappointed etc. Secondly I am a mother and the way I love and care for my kids is the same way I love to care for my clients. What’s better than helping people live their lives the best possible way?”

Joanita personally likes working for RAH because of the security, consistency, and support. “I haven't been out of work from the day that I started, and I have been paid every single week. Also my bosses have been very understanding. I have talked the office employees and they are all very respectful, they treat me with dignity and are very appreciative of my services.”

Joanita is appreciated by her clients and their loved ones, for example a client’s wife said that Joanita makes him “so happy, he sees the tenderness in her eyes and knows she truly cares for him.”

To be a great caregiver, Joanita advises others to build rapport with their clients from the first shift, don’t take anything personally, and treat clients like family… “with love, compassion, empathy, respect, and dignity”. “To get through bad days, I remind myself that clients don’t actually mean to be difficult, it is just the circumstances they are in. I like to take a moment to breathe in and out slowly if I feel overwhelmed, it really helps!”

Right at Home Boston Metro West Caregiver of the Year 2019 - Donna J.

2019 Caregiver of the Year, Donna J.

It is with great appreciation and excitement that we recognize Donna J. as our 2019 Caregiver of the year! Donna has been with Right at Home since March, 2019 and was our November, 2019 Caregiver of the month. Since Donna joined our team she has epitomized hard work and genuine caring.

Donna came to the U.S about 25 years ago to accompany and support her children in pursuing their dreams of attending college. Before coming to the U.S. Donna positively impacted the lives of many people in her home country of Trinidad. She created a breakfast program for underprivileged children where she provided them breakfast each morning and made sure they were prepared for school. If a child showed up to her program with torn/improper clothing or sneakers, Donna would change that. “I would tell them ‘Tomorrow morning, you’re not going to school in that’ and then I would make sure they got a pair of sneakers or clothing for the next day. And they always remember these things”. Helping others has been Donna’s mission from the beginning, and she continues to successfully do so each day.

Donna pays attention to detail and accommodates each client based on their preferences and needs. “You have to have love and be very patient…If you don’t like what you’re doing then it won’t work” said Donna. Donna has been an incredible team member, she takes on challenging cases without a second thought, and has provided long term and short term care for various clients. “I like things that challenge me” said Donna. She demonstrates great skill and compassion when helping and redirecting clients who are resistant to care.

Since the day Donna started, we have consistently received countless calls from clients, loved ones, and others involved in care to express their praise and appreciation for her. For example:

“I can’t say enough good about Donna. She is a remarkable woman, she is thorough, and knows just what to do”-loved one of former client.

“Donna has a wonderful sense of humor, genuinely cares about the client, and works well with him. She is always so capable and helpful” –loved one of client.

“She is amazing and such a sweetheart”- loved one of former client.

Donna works very hard and enjoys keeping busy. Although limited, her free time is spent with her beloved grandchildren who motivate her to wake up each morning and be the best she can be.

We are proud and thankful to have such a remarkable woman and caregiver who continues to surprise us with her excellence and we are equally pleased to recognize her as our 2019, Caregiver of the Year!

September 2018 Caregiver of the Month

richard september caregiver of the month

“I have always had the desire to help, show compassion, and improve the well-being of those in need, especially the less fortunate.” Our September 2018 Caregiver of the Month is awarded to Richard K.! In 2012, Richard’s grandfather unfortunately was suffering from the aftermath of a stroke in addition to colon cancer which prompted Richard to begin providing care for him back in Uganda. “I always found the time, energy, and skill to provide for him so he could live peacefully. There are many people here in America suffering like my Grandfather was which gives more reason to take on this profession.” Richard has been an Home Health Aide (HHA) in the U.S. for 3 years and became a part of the RAH team this past August.

While it is generally uncommon for new caregivers to be awarded Caregiver of the Month Richard has certainly earned his title with his outstanding dedication and good nature. “I feel complete when I see positive change happen because of me. I crave seeing those around me healthy, happy, and opportune with everything their lives’ desire.” His advice to new caregivers is… “Give your job the best effort. It is in your best interest to try your hardest in every aspect of life because you then have a chance to reach greater heights.” In his free time Richard likes to watch/play soccer, go to the beach with friends, meet new people, travel, and above all help others in their endeavors. Before coming to the United States in 2016, he was an accountant in his birthplace of Uganda. While doing charity work back home Julius realized his true passion to help others which prompted his career change. His pursuit to make a difference doesn’t stop there! Julius aspires to start his own organization to help orphans in Uganda and hopes to find the right people with similar goals to partner with him to make this dream a reality.

As a caregiver, he enjoys hearing and sharing stories with clients. “It's not about the money for me, I am pleased people are good to me and I learn a lot of new things through my work.” Julius has become a great caregiver by listening to his clients and coming to understand their personalities, as well as not taking things personally. His favorite book is "Dreams from My Father" by Barrack Obama. He enjoys soccer, swimming, and watching football and basketball. We are thankful to have Julius on our team and we are beyond proud of the hard work and passion he displays!

March Caregiver of the Month

lisa h caregiver of the month

Congratulations to our March 2018 Caregiver of the Month, Lisa H.! “No matter where you are and who it is, treat everyone with love, and how you want to be treated.” Lisa is a Home Health Aide (HHA) who has been with Right at Home Boston Metro West for almost ten years. She lives a very active life with caregiving as just one of her handful of occupations. “Everyone has a story, and it’s those stories and people I get to encounter that inspire me each day to be a better person.” She enjoys exchanging stories with her clients and doing what it takes to touch as many souls as she can. As a dedicated volunteer in her community Lisa is always looking out for others, whether she’s making a basket to donate, selling tickets etc… when called on to help, she’s there. While her love of traveling has led her far and wide across the country, her favorite place to be is at home surrounded by her family including her three children, two grandchildren, and dog Tucker. In addition to traveling, her hobbies include skiing, cooking for others, kayaking, and hiking.

Although she is very deserving of her award/prize, which she tried to donate back to RAH, we would like to thank Lisa for her kindness in donating her gift certificate to charity. Your hard work, passion, and humor are appreciated more than you know and we are proud to have you with us. Thank you and Congratulations Lisa!
