Creatively Living with Dementia: An Art Therapist’s Perspective
Right at Home Boston Metro West along with Maplewood at Weston and One Wingate Residences at Needham, present:
Creatively living with dementia: An Art Therapist’s Perspective
Having a Loved One living with a dementia diagnosis is life-changing. It can often leave families feeling overwhelmed, lost and not informed enough to handle moments of crisis. There are many emotions for the families, and most importantly that person living with dementia. Creative outlets, like art therapy can be beneficial for families and the person living with dementia to creatively express and enhance their quality of life.
This program is a great opportunity for a health-care professional to discover how families can newly engage their Loved One from a creative, person-centered perspective. In this program you will learn about creative flow, when to engage someone living with dementia and when to let them keep going. Learn what levels of support a person living with dementia really needs and how we can make small adjustments with color to enhance their lives.
A great way to engage someone living with dementia is through images. In this session you will also start your own image catalogue for the next time you are working with clients. Come to this program with a magazine, scissors and black or blank paper. This presentation will take place on Wednesday, March 10th from 4:15 PM to 5:30 PM.
At the completion of the presentation you will:
- Describe what adding the arts to the life of someone living with dementia can and can’t do.
- Summarize the distinction, value and support of 1:1 art therapy for someone living with dementia.
- Identify moments of creative flow, how to encourage and how to engage it.
