2019 Irish Echo Small Business Big Impact Award
Rosaleen Doherty, owner of Right at Home Boston and North was honored at the Irish Echo Small Business Big Impact Award at The Seaport Hotel in Boston on May 3, 2019. The Irish Small Business Big Impact Gala honored the entrepreneurs and business leaders who form the very backbone of the American economy; doers and risk-takers who have ensured that where businesses are being built and wealth created. The honorees were chosen by the Board of Irish Echo. Companies chosen were those Irish Americans run or own companies with 5 employees or more.
“Our honorees represent the spirit of endeavor and enterprise which is the hallmark of the Irish American small business community…..I know our panel of judges will be hard-pressed to select winners in a number of categories including Irish American Company of the Year and Fastest-Growing Company.” says says Connla McCann, publisher of award event hosts, the Irish Echo.
Right at Home Boston and North is a family owned home care agency that was started in 2002 by Rosaleen Doherty and husband and business partner, Jay Kenney. They are Marblehead residents and the business is currently headquartered in Salem, MA. They have expanded in their 17 years serving seniors to offices in Somerville and Haverhill, Massachusetts. They have 350 employees and serve almost 1,000 elderly clients weekly in their homes.
Rosaleen Doherty is a first generation American. Her mother, Catherine Craig Doherty, was born in Donegal, Ireland and came to New York City in 1960. Catherine was a Registered Nurse by profession and worked as a private nurse for families while she was raising her children. Rosaleen sees Right at Home as the next generation of how to keep people independent in their homes, in the face of the booming elderly population in the US.
“I get up everyday and know that Right at Home is making a difference in the lives of our elderly clients. I am so honored to get this award. I grew up with The Irish Echo on our coffee table every week and I could read how the Irish and those of Irish descent were making a difference across the US and the world. Though what we do is one person to one person, I know that my employees are changing the world one human interaction at a time and I am honored to be able to do this work.”
The Keynote Speaker at the Gala was Mayor Marty Walsh of Boston, who is a previous Irish Echo Labor Award winner.
