Spring CEU Workshop for Healthcare and Medical Professionals in Boston, MA
Right at Home Boston and North, Right at Home Foxboro, and Care Dimensions jointly presented the Spring CEU program for healthcare and medical professionals last Tuesday (May 9) at Legal Seafoods, Park Plaza in Boston, Massachusetts. The program came in two parts -- the first session was conducted by Care Dimensions, discussing the end of life care for LGBT individuals; the second session was led by Right at Home Boston and North on dementia care and awareness training.
Spirit, Mind, and Body: Caring for LGBT Individuals at End of Life
As the aging population grows in the U.S., the number of aging lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) adults is also on a rise. The LGBT community faces unique challenges when it comes to aging care. While some are socially isolated, some lack support from families. There are also caregiver issues due to legal arrangements or financial insecurity.
Mary Crowe, Education Specialist for CareDimensions gave a presentation entitled ”Spirit, Mind, and Body: Caring for LGBT Individuals at the End of Life,” discussing the unspoken challenges the community faces and what healthcare professionals should do to meet the unique needs of these individuals at the end of life.
DementiaLive
Following Ms. Crowe’s presentation, the community relations team of Right at Home Boston and North offered a DementiaLive training program for the 60 attendants of the Spring CEU workshop. DementiaLive training simulates the sensory experience of people living with dementia. Through the interactive training, participants learn to better understand and communicate with patients, thus improving the quality of care.
Right at Home Boston and North offers DementiaLive training in the local community. Interested parties can contact us at (781)-568-0623 for more information.
