Will We Ever Cure Alzheimer's Disease?
Here at Right at Home we have been assisting seniors and their families for almost 20 years. For the entire time we have offered our home care and dementia care services, there has been discussion of the day that we cure or prevent Alzheimer's disease. WCVB's Chronicle did a piece this week on what is being done in our area to develop a cure Alzheimer's. Researchers are hoping to develop something by 2025.
Families have been waiting with bated breath to see if any new treatment or drug could help their declining loved one. Alzheimer's care partners have been experience the longest day, every day. Alzheimer's disease in a family has devastating effects. It is so hard to watch your parent or spouse start to lose pieces of themselves. Taking away the keys or having to remind a loved one of simple tasks that would have been "no brainers" is so painful. So many times, families are disappointed when a treatment or drug doesn't give the results they have hoped for. In the end, living a healthy lifestyle seems to be the only thing that matters, yet those of us that live healthy could develop brain disorder just like anyone else.,/p>
The Alzheimer's Association is the key organization in the United States funding research and providing information and support to family. Their major fundraisers across the country are the Walk to End Alzheimer's. Our local walk will take place in Cambridge, MA on September 22, 2019. There goal is to raise $1.5 million for that walk and they are already at $450,000. Teams that are made up of family members or community groups raise money because they have seen the hardship that Alzheimer's disease can give to a family for years. Alzheimer's is one of the biggest health crises of our time. Why don't you grab a few friends and join the Walk to End Alzheimer's?
