The Role of Home Care and Parkinson's Disease

Kris Cameron, the founder, and director of the Cedar Rapids Metro Parkinson’s Association asked me to speak at their monthly support group meeting on September 21, 2023, at their new venue, The Innovation Center for Aging & Dementia in Cedar Rapids. It was wonderful to see her again and I was happy to explain the role of home care in the lives of families affected by Parkinson’s disease! It is a progressive disease that affects movement and sense of balance and results in someone eventually requiring assistance with daily cares.

Home care can play an essential role in providing some or all that support in the form of nursing services for medication management and care coordination with physicians and physical therapists. It could also mean having a home health aide visit for help with showering, dressing, eating, and performing safe exercises.  I discussed typical payer sources for home care including long term care insurance and benefits through Veterans Affairs, however, most people cover our services through private pay, tapping into savings, retirement plans and Social Security. Our aides are trained, ready, and willing to assist those with Parkinson’s disease, give us a call to learn how we can help you!
