Anel Metellus Provides Extraordinary Care
Earns Right at Home Midwest Region Caregiver of the Year
Congratulations to Anel Metellus from Right at Home Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on his recognition as the 2023 Right at Home Midwest Region Caregiver of the Year! He was selected from among thousands of other caregivers for his exemplary commitment to making a difference in the lives of his clients and team members.
Anel knows that many of his clients do not have family or friends to assist in their care, so you will find him going above and beyond to take care not only of the daily living activities but also the valuable social experiences his clients need in their lives.
Stephanie Humphries, who owns Right at Home Cedar Rapids with her husband John Humphries, recalls one of the first times she met Anel. He was cooking breakfast and baking bread in the kitchen with a 90-year-old woman who lived alone. He was wearing an apron while laughing and talking with his client in their native accent. The heartwarming scene sticks with her as a true depiction of achieving the Right at Home mission: to improve the quality of life for those we serve.
“We know that we can send Anel into any care situation, and he will provide the very best care to the client,” said Stephanie Humphries. “He has a very caring, comforting demeanor, and his clients just absolutely love him.”
One of Anel’s clients was a veteran. He lived in poverty and developed a case of scabies when his apartment became infested with roaches. This is not a situation in which caregivers are expected to work, yet Anel told the office he wanted to continue caring for his client because he knew no one else would help him.
Anel’s dedication to caregiving is also reflected in the Right at Home office.
“Anel has extensive experience in many areas of health care and enjoys empowering other caregivers to be the best they can be,” said Stephanie Humphries.
You can find Anel sharing his learning experiences and knowledge with other caregivers and staff. He helps train new caregivers on safe techniques and transfers and meets them at their shifts to ensure they are successful. He continues to further his own education by completing Right at Home trainings and earning additional certifications through the community college.
“Anel is the epitome of what we do and is a shining example of what every caregiver should be,” said Stephanie Humphries.
Anel has been with Right at Home Cedar Rapids for six years. His compassion, selflessness and willingness to go above and beyond have made him a valued member of Right at Home and a beloved caregiver for seniors in the Cedar Rapids community.
Honoring Our Caregivers
National and Regional Caregivers of the Year are the highest honors awarded by Right at Home. Caregivers are nominated for their exemplary commitment to making a difference in the lives of their clients and teams. The winners are selected by a committee that includes Right at Home representatives and community professionals from outside health care, senior care and caregiving organizations. The award is presented annually during the organization’s conference.
