Humphries Joins News Now: Managing Parkinson’s Disease

Stephanie Humphries on Iowa's News Now

Parkinson’s Disease is a disorder of movement and control of our muscles caused by a deficient amount of a brain chemical called dopamine for which there is no cure.  This disease can be well-managed with the right balance of medication, exercise, and support at least until the end stages as the disease is progressive in nature.  Caring for someone with this disease means assisting with appointments, therapies and providing physical and emotional support techniques.  It is important to educate yourself and seek out resources in the community like those offered by the Cedar Rapids Metro Parkinson’s Association.
