People who have been diagnosed with heart disease need to modify their diets and avoid certain over-the-counter medications and foods that can adversely interact with the medications commonly prescribed to treat heart disease. Heart disease is diagnosed when an episode occurs that interrupts blood flow somewhere in the body such the brain or heart resulting in a heart attack or stroke. Many medications prescribed work to optimize blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and blood circulation so it is important to avoid things that could diminish their effectiveness.
