Parkinson's Sole Support Walk: A Success!
On Sunday, October 6th 2024, Parkinson's Resources of Oregon (PRO) hosted their annual Sole Support walk at Drake Park. This is a yearly walk to raise awareness about Parkinson's disease, as well as to raise money for Parkinson's research. It's also a great way for Parkinson's patients and their loved ones/families to be able to find some community amongst each other, too.
Staying involved in the Parkinson's community is a great way to stay up on caregiver support, disease treatments, and navigate the challenges that this disease presents to patients and their caregivers alike. Two of the BEST ways to slow the progression of the disease is exercise (lots and lots!), socialization, and learning and practicing new motor skills. This event was perfect for both!
Right at Home had a table at the event, allowing us to inform people about our services and how we can help provide caregiver support to Parkinson's patients in the comfort of their own homes. We had a really neat give away treat too: We gave away free painting supplies to everyone who attended the event! We gave away canvases, paint brushes, and paints to anyone who wanted them, free of charge. Painting is an excellent way to learn a new hobby and to form new neural connections in the brain- which can help improve disease outcomes and improve quality of life.
We are passionate about keeping our clients at home, instead of having to move to a facility. Keeping clients happy and healthy in the comfort of their own home is so important, so they can stay in their own familiar environment.
