March 2019 | End of Life and Hospice Care
We would like to share some pics from our March Top Notch Training on End of Life & Hospice Care. Right at Home Caregivers learned about the philosophy of hospice, the dying process and how to care for our clients compassionately during this sensitive time. Thank you to Partners in Care registered nurse, Kathleen, for the comprehensive training and helping to prepare our care staff with this important skill set.
February 2019 | Adult Protective Services Training
Our February 2019 Top Notch Training Class was taught by the investigators at APS- Adult Protective Services. Thank you to all of our caregivers who braved the snowy and icy weather to attend and also to the investigators for doing such a great job teaching us all about the different types of abuse and the indicators to watch for.
We are mandatory reporters and part of our mission is to advocate for our clients and vulnerable adults. Congrats to Bev for winning our raffle for a gift card!
January 2019 | Safe Client Transfers
Thanks to all of our dedicated caregivers who came out to the JANUARY TOP NOTCH TRAINING on performing safe client transfers and using proper body mechanics. MJ, physical therapist extraordinaire from Partners in Care Hospice taught us well! Congrats to caregiver Heather who won or caregiver raffle.
December 2018 | Stroke Awareness
Thanks to all of the staff that came out to our Stroke Awareness TNT. Carol from Stroke Awareness of Oregon did a great job teaching us how to prevent and recognize strokes!
November 2018 | Compassionate End of Life Care
November’s Top Notch Training was presented by longtime Registered Nurse, Diana Herengrader, the Clinical Director of Heart’n’Home Hospice. Care staff learned the most effective techniques to give compassionate End of Life Care to clients. This included the stages of dying and how to provide comfort and support to clients and their families during this sensitive time. Thanks to Diana and Emilie for educating our caregivers to keep their skills Top Notch!
October 2018 | Memory and Aging
October’s Top Notch Training was a great turnout. Our presenter from Central Oregon Health Council COHC, Mary Callison, MSW, continued the series on memory and aging from the illustrious Dr. Winningham. Our caregivers learned more about the types of memory, how memories are formed, and the progression of memory loss with dementia. Thank you to Mary and to Mill View Memory Care, one of our valued referral partners, for hosting!
June 2018 | End of Life Care
RAH has monthly CG training classes taught by medical professionals on various topics related to senior care. This month our Top Notch Training was presented by the INCREDIBLE staff members at Partners in Care Hospice.

April 2018 | Seniors Just Want to Have Fun
Here are some pics from Right at Home’s April Top Notch Training called, “Seniors Just Want to Have Fun!” The class was taught by Physical Therapist, Carol-Ann Nelson, from Destination Rehab of Bend and covered the benefits of physical fitness for seniors.
The TNT was hosted by Regency Village of Bend & attended by 20 of our caregivers and some senior residents as well. Thank you to Destination Rehab & Regency for your collaboration and support!
February 2018 | Theory of Memory & Aging
Right at Home In-Home Care offers hands-on training every month, for our caregivers and anyone from the community who wants to learn more about senior care-related topics.
February’s class covered Dr. Winningham’s ‘Use It or Lose It” Theory of Memory & Aging. Mary & Angela from the Central Oregon Health Council taught the class and it was hosted by Fox Hollow Independent and Assisted living. Delicious snack were provided by their chef. Our care staff learned ways to enhance the mental functioning of older adults and improve their quality of life.
Caregiver Virginia won our raffle for a Fred Meyer gift card! Thank you everyone for participating.
November 2017 | End of Life Care
November's Top Notch Training on End of Life Care was taught by the Partners in Care Interdisciplinary Team. The panel included expert speakers on Symptom Management, Safety, Comfort Measures, Transfers, Special Needs of Veterans, Advance Directives and Caregiver Fatigue.
Right at Home care staff were engaged and learned some invaluable skills that they will take with them out into the field. Thank you to Partners In Care for helping to make our Top Notch Training Program a great success!
June 20, 2017 | Taking Vitals, Identifying Change in Client Condition and Wound Care
Nurse Wendy taught our lovely caregivers about taking vital signs including manual blood pressure, heart rate & respirations. We also learned about all the signs which indicate a client may be having a stroke or other critical change in conditions such as heart attack or respiratory distress.
Symptoms of stroke include trouble walking, speaking, and understanding, as well as paralysis or numbness of the face, arm, or leg. If you’re having a stroke, it’s critical that you get medical attention right away. Immediate treatment may minimize the long-term effects of a stroke and even prevent death.
Wound care segment focused on recognizing & preventing pressure ulcers and preventing skin break down by using proper techniques such as frequent turning of an immobile client, floating the clients’ heels and use of a draw sheet when pulling a client up in bed.
June 6, 2017 | End of Life Care
Chaplain Ernie presents on the Special Needs of Veterans. Right at Home cares for many of our honored US Veterans and we appreciate the sacrifices they have made for our country.
Ms. Velda, PIC Palliative Care Nurse, explains more details on Advance Directives. Caregivers learn what to do in the case of a client with a DNR order.
Here, Barb, the Social Work Supervisor for PIC, talks about the best ways to alleviate caregiver stress. Caregivers learn about self-care and “Caring for the Caregiver". Barb gives resources that our caregivers can turn to in order to mitigate “Compassion Fatigue.”

May 2017 | Feeding Tube and Medication Administration
May’s TNT brought our largest turn out yet with 14 caregivers in total attending. The topic was tube feeding & medication administration taught by our Right at Home registered nurse, Wendy McCullough.
A G-tube or PEG tube is a short and hollow tube inserted into the stomach from the surface of the abdomen through an opening called the “gastrostomy site.” The G-tube is used as an access to deliver nutrition supplements & medication to a person for our clients who would otherwise be unable to attain proper nutrition by mouth.
In June we will have 2 separate TNT training classes. Topics will include End of Life Care, Taking Vitals & Wound Care.

Our March 2017 Top Notch Training class focused on the Teepa Snow Approach to Alzheimers & Dementia presented by Angela Belew Jensen LCSW & Mary Callison MSW.
