Live-In Care vs. 24/7 Care

In addition to our hourly services, we offer our clients 24-hour and live-in care. Because they sound so similar, it is easy to misunderstand the difference and use the terms interchangeably. In reality, 24-hour care and live-in care are very different and require a bit of explanation.

Live-In Care

What this means: The caregiver will live in the client’s home and work approximately 10 hours per day. You can expect one primary caregiver and one substitute.

What this requires: A designated area in the home for the caregiver, purchase of weekly groceries or grocery stipend, 3 hours of break time during the day and 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep overnight. This service requires a thorough assessment of a client’s needs to appropriately match the caregiver to a case.

Who this works for: Clients who live alone and need help with basic activities of daily living throughout the day. They can be left alone for short periods of time and need minimal assistance overnight.

Rates: Live-in care is charged as a flat rate per day. Overtime may be charged if the client needs assistance several times throughout the night. Rates may also differ on holidays and weekends.

24-Hour Care (or 24/7 Care)

What this means: Attentive and alert caregivers, 24-hours per day. Depending on the client’s needs, we may utilize two to three caregivers per day (5-6 steady caregivers per week). Shifts may vary from 8 to 12-hours.

What this requires: While this service does not require the client to provide food, caregivers may bring something to eat and take intermittent 15-minute breaks. For overnight shifts, comfortable seating for the caregiver is requested. As with live-in care, this service also requires a thorough assessment of a client’s needs to appropriately match the caregiver to a case.

Who this works for: For clients who need ongoing attention during a 24-hour period. Caregivers will tend to their needs all day and all night.

Rates: 24-hour care is charged hourly. Rates are determined based on specific services needed and may vary on holidays and weekends.
