Why did you choose this profession?
At a very early age I knew that I wanted to be a nurse as well as to be in the military. I did both upon completing my Bachelor of Science program at Seton Hall University. I began my nursing career in the Navy. I chose Nursing because it was a profession that was educationally challenging, rewarding, honorable, and respected. It provided me an opportunity to make a difference in people's lives, one in which there is something new to learn almost every day. It is a career that has satisfied my need to serve as well as to comfort and care for others. Ultimately, the profession allows me to use my skills in ways that directly impact the care of my patients.
"Nursing is a fulfilling career, and I love that I can make a difference in people’s lives almost every day."
What is something you want to share that others may not know about you/nurses?
During my career in the Navy, I was selected to be on a medical team to provide care to the President of the United States at that time, should he visit the area where I was stationed. That was an honorable role, and considering the number of nurses at a large Naval Hospital, I was proud to be selected for such an important team. Being selected for the Presidential Medical Team showed the confidence that the Naval Hospital leadership had in me and my clinical skills.
