Our mid-year reflections and summer updates

This July, we are pausing to reflect. While summer tends to be a busy time of year for us, we are taking a moment to thank all of the wonderful people who make Right at Home of Essex County such an amazing team. We have had many celebrations this year as we commemorate our 20 years in business, and we have loved walking down memory lane along the way.

At the heart of our approach lie core principles: trust; a deep appreciation for the unique value of family enterprises; establishing clear boundaries; setting high expectations; and fostering empathy. In a recent interview with Medium, we explored essential elements for running a successful family business. These principles have not only shaped our business strategy, but also cultivated an environment where growth and success thrive.

We will be sharing more about our story over the coming months in our 20 Years of Story series on LinkedIn, Facebook, and our new YouTube channel. We invite you to follow us there!

Take care,

Maeghan

Where Our Story Begins

Our business was started 20 years ago by Moses Scott. Moses decided to purchase the Essex County territory of home care franchise, Right at Home, because of his experience navigating his mother’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis.

He saw how compassionate and kind caregivers could make such a positive difference in the life of his mother and his family. We recently were interviewed on BWB’s Questions to Hold podcast and reflected on our journey, and invite you to listen.

Thank you to the Right at Home of

Essex County Family

Thank you to each of you for caring for our clients with compassion and skill. We hope that each of you takes time to celebrate this month!

Happy Birthday Tina W, Jevensky M, Cynthia A,Jessie O, , Immacula D, Nicole M and Waneta G! And happiest of anniversaries to Marlyn D, Marjorie S, Amaka U, Shella L and Claudia R!

We are also thankful for the wonderful Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and their dedication to working with residents who are also our clients, family members, and friends. We’re incredibly proud to partner with such wonderful caregivers who share their gifts with the aging community.

It has been an honor to celebrate CNAs with some special lunches and sweet treats. Thank you to each and every one of the CNAs for providing the best care possible.

Running a Successful Family Business

As part of Authority Magazine's series about5 Things You Need To Run A Highly Successful Family Business, Maeghan Scott reflects on what it means to build a family business:

"We are a family business, in the business of caring for families. We believe aging isn’t just about staying healthy, safe, and independent; it’s also about living well. Our goal is to help our neighbors stay in a place where they’re comfortable for as long as possible."

Right at Home of Essex County Let's Talk About It

New Jersey Home Care Caucus

In June, Senate Republican Leader Anthony Bucco co-chaired the first meeting of the New Jersey Legislative Home Care Caucus. This bipartisan group of state legislators is committed to advancing home care services for children, adults, and seniors.

Joining Senator Bucco was Senator Gordon Johnson, Assemblywoman Carol Murphy, and Assemblywoman Nancy Munoz. Together, the caucus focused on developing policies that support families and raising awareness among lawmakers about the caregiving crisis in our nation.

Their objective was to highlight the hardships encountered by family caregivers and to draw attention to the challenges faced by caregivers from diverse backgrounds. The Home Care Association of America actively participated in the caucus to contribute corporate insights and support.

How Can We Help?

If a family caregiver feels overwhelmed, they can always consider professional in-home care services. In-home care services, such as those offered by Right at Home, can be important in the well-being of older adults who choose to age in place.Professional caregivers can drive seniors to the pharmacy or pick up prescriptions, give reminders to take medications, and alert families to possible side effects.

We also help clients maintain an all-around healthy lifestyle by providing nutritious meals, supervision during exercise, and companionship—all of which can lessen the need for certain medications. A trusted professional caregiver can also be a source of respite for a family caregiver who needs time to rest and rejuvenate.
