Celebrating our Trusted Caregivers, Fathers, and Community this June

This June, we took time to recognize our Caregivers - the women and men who make everything at Right at Home of Essex County possible. The value of strong relationships with our caregivers is something that our founder, Moses Scott, taught us since day one.

When my dad started his business, we quickly learned it was hard for him not to bring his work home. Oftentimes, we would be together and he would have to take an urgent phone call. We would always ask what it was about which led to stories upon stories about home care, clients, caregivers, aging, etc.

Through these stories, we got to know some of the caregivers who are so crucial to the work we do and how he valued and trusted them. I smile thinking about many of those caregivers who are still working with us today. Our caregivers are our family. I am thankful to my father everyday for paving the way, and wish him and all the Father’s out there a very Happy Father’s Day.

Take care,

Maeghan

CELEBRATING OUR CAREGIVERS

Last week we hosted a celebration with our team members as we continue to celebrate our 20 years in business. The celebration was a day full of self-care and wellness, where caregivers enjoyed being pampered with massages, manicures, flower bouquets, and delicious food.

Our success comes from each and every member who has helped us provide excellent care to our clients and their families. We are grateful for their commitment and dedication which is at their core of their work. Thank you to all of our team members and their families for your support.

Here are some of our favorite photos from the celebration with our wonderful caregivers.

RECOGNIZING FATHERS

This month, we recognize all fathers and father figures…

Right at Home of Essex County was founded by a special father, Moses Scott, who felt a connection to senior care after seeing his own mother benefit from the personal care she received from an in home caregiver.

Moses was a proud member of the Essex County community and saw Right at Home as his family, too. We have carried on this tradition and are a family owned and operated business that has been serving our clients and their families for 20 years.

PARTNERSHIP AND COMMUNITY

As recent guests on the Questions to Hold Podcast with BWB, we talked about partnership and how it has played a foundational role in our business practices at Right at Home of Essex County.

Maeghan and Melodie reflected on the partnerships that their family has built over the years and the importance of these connections in the Essex County community. During the 20th Year Celebration, Maeghan shared these words:

“I thought about the conversations, collaborations, meetings and events within this professional network...the hours and hours of care we provided, often until a client takes their last breath. The clients who become more like friends after years of working together and trusting one another. The caregivers who form unbreakable bonds and become like family to our clients.”

There have been so many special people who have helped make this business a success and we are grateful to be able to celebrate this milestone together.

OVERNIGHT CARE

Caring for an aging loved one can be challenging when a person is trying to manage the responsibility in addition to balancing their own lives.

At Right at Home of Essex County, we understand this and have trained and trusted caregivers who can support you during this time.

Whether a short or long term need, our caregivers are prepared to take the night shift and provide the necessary care for your loved one.

JUNE INSERVICE:

Recognizing and Reporting

Abnormal Observations

Our caregivers are trained to recognize the whole person which includes observing their cognitive behaviors.

Cognitive impairments may be an indication that something is going on with their medication, signs of an illness that needs to be addressed or a decline in brain functioning.

As part of the ongoing education, our trusted caregivers will receive additional training on being able to recognize the difference between normal and abnormal behaviors and be given tools and resources to help them in reporting their observations in order to provide the best possible care for our clients.

TWO HOUSE COMMITTEES PASS HOSPITAL CARE AT HOME WAIVER EXTENSION

Supported by Right at Home and WellSky

  • Acute Hospital Care at Home waiver makes Medically Home programs possible

  • Right at Home and WellSky advocating extension of waiver beyond Dec. 31, 2024

  • Bill extends waiver five years

There have been recent legislative developments regarding the extension of the Acute Hospital Care at Home waiver in the United States. On May 8th, both the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee’s Health Subcommittee and the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Health Subcommittee approved a five-year extension of the waiver in bipartisan votes.

This extension is crucial for initiatives like Medically Home, which provides acute care in home settings, and home care agencies like Right at Home, to continue their services. The waiver, initially created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to alleviate hospital bed shortages, has seen significant growth and currently involves over 320 hospitals across 37 states.

The bill now awaits markup by the full House Energy and Commerce Committee and requires reconciliation of any differences in legislative language between the two versions before being considered by the full House.

Your words. Our quality care.

Thank you Chris McCormack for photographing our 20 year anniversary event, and taking some new headshots for our team. We are proud to share them!
