On World Alzheimer’s Day, September 21, we collaborated with Hearing Doctors of New Jersey and Summit Psychological Services to host a fitness fundraiser for Team Zumba, which is led by Franny Vales. All proceeds went to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Franny’s mother, Angie, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's several years ago, and she uses their connection of dance through Zumba as a form of healing.
We had a great turn out and Zumba workout with Franny & Simone.
Thank you to everyone who helped support the Fall Fitness event on September 21st!

Welcome to the Right at Home of Essex County team, Scott R.! We're thrilled to have you on board.
Scott decided to pursue a career in nursing after starting the journey at age 14 by joining a volunteer ambulance squad. This experience ignited his passion for healthcare and helping others.
By age 17, Scott became a certified first responder, and at 18, was the youngest in the EMT class. Those early experiences solidified the desire to make a meaningful impact in people's lives through nursing.
Help us welcome Scott to the Right at Home of Essex County team by sending a comment or a reaction.

Caring for a Loved One with Alzheimer’s
|
|
Caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s can be emotionally and physically challenging. It may feel stressful watching the condition progress, and we recommend that our clients prepare themselves for this process:
-
Start by educating yourself and finding resources to help you, your family, and other caregivers navigate the changes. The Greater New Jersey Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association is a great organization that provides education and support and is also a partner of Right at Home of Essex County.
-
Find shared activities and hobbies to engage in together. This will provide entertainment and give your loved one an opportunity to tap into their interests and maybe even share their skills.
-
Manage stress levels to avoid feeling overwhelmed and keep yourself healthy in the process. This includes remembering to practice self-care and ask for help when you need a break.
If you are looking for a care partner, visit our website for a complete list of services and contact us today.

Presidential Candidate Kamala Harris Proposes Medicare Home Care Benefit
|
|
-
Paid for by savings from price negotiations with pharmaceutical manufacturers
-
Would provide ongoing assistance with activities of daily living, not currently covered
-
Proposal provides some details
Appearing on the daytime talk show “The View,” presidential candidate Kamala Harris announced Oct. 8 that, if elected, she intends to lead the creation of a home care benefit in Medicare plans. Currently, Medicare does not have a benefit for ongoing assistance with activities of daily living (ADL). It is that service that the elderly need to live independently wherever they call home.
Many Americans end up spending down assets and income on paying for ADL support out of pocket until they qualify for Medicaid. This puts a burden on them and then on state budgets.
The Harris campaign released some details about the “Medicare at Home” benefit. Still, additional clarity will be needed regarding provider eligibility, provider reimbursement, any mandates around reimbursement such as the 80/20 rule in the Medicaid programs, or the number of hours of care that would be offered.
Those items will need to be clearly defined to determine if the benefit is feasible and affordable.
