Ways to Avoid Scams Aimed at the Elderly with Flint Courier News
Erica Riley, HR manager for Right at Home of Genesee County, was recently interviewed by the Flint Courier News about how her parents were almost the victims of scammers. She told the Courier News, that the scammers approached her parents and said that their Amazon account was used to purchase something illegal. The scammers said they would need to come up with a lot of money or the police would arrest them.
Riley's parents were in a panic, something scammers aim for, but before they acted on their panic, they slowed down and looked into it. Riley told the Courier News, “They’re going to want you to be upset and want you to make a decision really fast because they don’t want you to figure them out.”
According to the article, in 2021 American received roughly 21 billion scam robocalls. These calls resulted in an estimated $30 billion in lost revenue due to fraud and as much as $3 billion in lost time and nuisances.
