The Sjoberg Family Owners

Right at Home Overland Park

The Sjoberg Family

One day, a few years back, Kami woke up and couldn't move. Her husband, Scott, initially panicked but collected himself and got Kami to the hospital. Kami was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and has lived with the disease since 1999. MS has forced Kami and Scott to confront many of the same challenges their clients face. As Kami struggled with daily activities, Scott became her primary caregiver. He helped her eat, brush her teeth, dress, and use the restroom. Kami's MS is in remission, but the struggles she and Scott went through are never far from their mind – especially when someone calls seeking care.

Does Scott and Kami's story sound similar to what your family is experiencing? Unlike so many other in-home care companies, Scott and Kami understand, on a deeply personal level, what clients and their families are going through. Dave and Judy have also experienced the challenges of caring for an aging parent. Judy recalls making regular trips between Denver and Kansas. When adult children are grappling with caring for their elderly parents from a distance, Judy and Dave can relate to the challenges caring for a loved one long distance presents.

Choosing to open a Right at Home in Overland Park was an easy choice from Kami, Scott, Judy, and Dave. Having provided care for a loved one, they understand the emotional stress caregiving puts on a family. On the flip side, losing the ability to perform daily activities as Kami experienced, really helped to understand just what a lot of clients are going through. From the time you call the Right at Home Overland Park office, you will be treated with compassion by people who really do understand what you are going through.

"A lot of hard work and heart goes to into what we do. From our office team to our field team, we are proud of the work we do and take it very seriously." — Kami Sjoberg

Person-Centered Caregiving Highlights Compassion and Dignity

Kami & Scott share their reasons for opening Right at Home Overland Park and Right at Home Lawrence, and what drives their passion for home care. There is a depth of relationships this type of business offers both clients and their care team. The importance of helping people and supporting the community at large is a big part of serving others. Through in-home care, Right at Home offers an empathetic helping hand to support people as they live their future.

Our Mission

Put simply, our mission is to improve the quality of life for those we serve. Of course, we recognize that everyone’s idea of “quality of life” is different, which is why it’s so important to us to make you an active part of your own care plan. We want you to be in the driver’s seat regardless of any limitations or challenges you’re facing.

Most of all, we believe aging isn’t just about staying healthy, safe and independent. It’s also about living well.

Our Philanthropies

Right at Home’s mission is “to improve the quality of life for those we serve,” and expanding our mission to serve others around the world is truly a pleasure. We support many organizations that help people live independently.

Free Wheelchair Mission

Globally, an estimated 70 million people with disabilities have no access to a wheelchair. Those who cannot walk must crawl or be carried to their destination. In collaboration with a network of like-minded partners, Free Wheelchair Mission has distributed more than 1 million wheelchairs to people with disabilities in 93 developing countries around the world, providing renewed dignity, independence and hope through the gift of mobility, at no cost to the recipient.

As an organization, our work with Free Wheelchair Mission began in 2016 as we looked for a partner that would help us further our mission of improving lives worldwide. To date, our team’s efforts have raised more than $400,000 that has funded over 5,000 wheelchairs, which were distributed through life-changing Vision Trips to Vietnam, Ecuador and Costa Rica.

Josiah’s House

Over half of the children living in the Dominican Republic live below the poverty line and can be found on the streets in at-risk surroundings in order to make money. Josiah’s House runs family-style homes that provide vulnerable boys and girls with the basic necessities, education, life skills, and family home atmosphere needed to succeed.

Recently, 70 Right at Home offices came together to support Josiah’s House by supplying everyday items for the children of Josiah’s House. The group delivered suitcases full of clothing, personal hygiene items, toys, and other supplies.
