The Silent Disco Senior Tour | Marin County

Seniors at Silent Disco event

Some danced, some listened, some smiled, some laughed, and some even got teary. Music brings out the best of all of our emotions. It allows us to reminisce and remember the good old days. On July 26th, Right at Home Marin partnered with HUSHconcerts to host a silent disco event for seniors at Drake Terrace in San Rafael, CA.

What Is Silent Disco?

Residents used wireless headphones to listen to their favorite music of the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s – The Temptations, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Chubby Checker, Stevie Wonder (to name just a few).  The wireless headphonHushConcerts Silent Disco DJes allowed the residents to set their own volume (with hearing aids intact), get up and move around freely, and connect physically or visually with others in the room. It was a great way to bring the residents together promoting social activity and providing those with hearing loss a more suitable conduit to really listen/hear the music. Right at Home Marin along with HUSHconcerts will be touring other local senior communities presenting “Silent Disco Senior Tour”.

Next Stop On The Tour

Jessica Price, owner of Right at Home Marin, donned her Pink Lady jacket and went to deliver a treat to the Deer Park Retirement Community for the next stop on the Silent Disco tour on Halloween night.

There was a fun specific request for "Achy Breaky Heart" and enjoyed assisting a resident mastering the Electric Slide.

Thanks again to Deer Park Retirement Community for hosting on Halloween and to HUSHconcerts for partnering with us.

Grooving on to Atria Tamalpais Creek Assisted Living

Right at Home Marin hosted Silent Disco for the Atria Tamlpais Creed Assisted Living and Memory Care Residents. This was another opportunity to bring happiness and joy through movement and memories with music and dance! It was so wonderful to engage the residents in song and dance. It brought them back to a time of their youth by playing music of the 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's and a little of the 80's. These two events were extra special to me for a few reasons.

My mom was visiting from the east coast, she helped with both events, picking out familiar songs and dancing with the residents. She knew all the old dances and held her own. It was great to see. We learned a few of the memory care residents had not been so happy or engaged in some time. It really was heartwarming to know we were able to give them that joy and happiness.
