Put simply, our mission is to improve the quality of life for those we serve. Of course, we recognize that everyone’s idea of “quality of life” is different, which is why it’s so important to us to make you an active part of your own care plan. We want you to be in the driver’s seat regardless of any limitations or challenges you’re facing.
Most of all, we believe aging isn’t just about staying healthy, safe and independent. It’s also about living well.
Our History
Patti Walter and Pat McCann have owned Right at Home of Northern Colorado since April 2013. Patti is the Agency Manager and is responsible for the day to day operations.
From a career perspective, Patti had the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in several different fields that have prepared her well for home care. She started working at the Humane Society for Larimer County while she was in high school. She stayed after graduation and became a Humane Educator, improving the quality of life for those who cannot speak. While she was a Humane Educator, she started Pet Therapy in nursing homes. Changing fields, she went to work with General Nutrition Center here in Fort Collins, then moving to Montana and opened two stores. After moving back to Fort Collins, she worked with Mountain States Personnel as an employment counselor and then specifically as a recruiter for the restaurant business. She became an office manager working with a team of recruiters. She went to school at IBMC and became a medical assistant and worked in pain management.
She is thrilled to be able to bring the many skills, life experiences, energy, and passion, to help support individuals in their ability to maintain their independence and improve their quality of life by providing “ability driven person-centered care.”
A Local Pioneer
Patti was on the leading edge locally in the use of Pet Therapy, also known as Animal-Assisted Therapy. Animal-assisted therapy is a growing field that uses dogs or other animals to help people recover from or better cope with health problems, such as heart disease, cancer and mental health disorders. Patti developed programs and therapy encounters, bringing the comfort and joy of therapy dogs to local and regional nursing homes.
Our Philanthropy
Globally, an estimated 70 million people with disabilities have no access to a wheelchair. Those who cannot walk must crawl or be carried to their destination. In collaboration with a network of like-minded partners, Free Wheelchair Mission has distributed more than 1 million wheelchairs to people with disabilities in 93 developing countries around the world, providing renewed dignity, independence and hope through the gift of mobility, at no cost to the recipient.
As an organization, our work with Free Wheelchair Mission began in 2016 as we looked for a partner that would help us further our mission of improving lives worldwide. To date, our team’s efforts have raised more than $400,000 that has funded over 5,000 wheelchairs, which were distributed through life-changing Vision Trips to Vietnam, Ecuador and Costa Rica.
