Dementia in Motion Presentation
A Movement Program for Seniors to Curb the Effects of Dementia
Right at Home Northern Colorado, Dementia Friendly Communities, Alzheimer’s org. and The Forge( Mike, Personal trainer) will be presenting the first “Dementia in Motion” June 26th. "Dementia in Motion" is a movement program for Seniors to curb the effects of dementia. Mike created the exercise program with the help of a nurse back in Wisconsin who is part of the VA and worked with some older veterans on a balance program. Mike took some of the movement and mobility principles that we use with our athletes and adults, combined those concepts with the balance program to create what is now what Mike calls a "balance clinic."
To keep it safe, the balance clinic is chair-based. The movements can be scaled up or down based on the ability of the participant. We are encouraging both participants and caretakers to attend. We will be giving the participants and caretakers a "exercise menu" at the end so that they can take these tools home to use.
We would like to be able to offer this monthly class for FREE, but then follow-up with either additional classes for senior residence facilities, small group classes, and in-home personal training. Our vision is to help an under served population with the help of some great organizations.
Join us Wednesday June 26th at the Alzheimer's office for this free event.
