MELISSA CONNER
We are delighted to announce our 2019 Caregiver of the Year – Melissa Conner! Melissa truly lives our mission to improve the quality of life for those we serve. Her clients praise her attentiveness, professionalism, kindness and compassion, which compliment her technical caregiving skills including transferring, positioning and ambulating assistance. Melissa has been with Right at Home for over 3 years and, as one of our longest serving caregivers, her work ethic sets the bar high for our caregivers. It almost goes without saying that Melissa is reliable, punctual, proactive, and consistent in the compassionate care she provides. She takes a great deal of pride in her work and brings joy to every client to whom she provides care.
For more than two years, Melissa was the primary caregiver for her client who required heavy personal care, transferring assistance, and companionship. Her client’s wife praised Melissa for the immediate bond she forged with him. When he was hospitalized, his wife requested Melissa provide companionship in the hospital to give her respite. She was at ease knowing he was in Melissa’s competent and capable hands. Sadly, her client recently passed away. Melissa worked tirelessly to provide comforting end-of-life care to her client, his wife, and their family in his final weeks. Melissa truly was considered a member of this precious family.
Melissa epitomizes being a team player by regularly mentoring and training fellow caregivers, accepting shifts on short notice and covering requested time off for fellow care team members. She is dedicated to providing continuity of care to her clients and took it upon herself to mentor and train new caregivers who joined her care team as her client approached end of life. Melissa shared her knowledge of his care needs as well as tips and techniques she perfected for his customized care. Her guidance and support ensured all care team members provided loving and skilled care. We see Melissa’s commitment to delivering excellent care to clients spill over to fellow caregivers. Melissa has been our go-to caregiver for staffing overnight cases. She has regularly picked up extra shifts and worked 7 straight days. Our scheduling team knows that Melissa will cover just about any overnight shift we offer, no matter how challenging the care needs.
In all she does, the pride she takes in her work shines through and her clients regularly ask for her to become a permanent member of their care teams. Melissa has been awarded our Caregiver of the Month, Team Player of the Month and has been named as one of our monthly All-Stars too many months to count!
