Alzheimer's Support Groups

Right at Home of Pickerington is a strong advocate of support groups. These groups present a forum for family caregivers to share their stories, express their frustration and doubts in an environment that provides emotional support to the participants who are quite vulnerable. Wendi Gang, our Director of Business Development, facilitates two Alzhiemer’s Support groups.

Wendi is passionate about people with Alzheimer's and those that care for them. She has been in the medical field for over 20 years and most of those years in hospice. She has seen the toll that the disease takes on a caregiver. Most of the time the caregiver feels alone and their health declines due to not taking care of themselves. She was a caregiver for both of her grandparents and I has a passion to help others know they are not alone and to educate not only about the disease but also educate about self-care.

Alzheimer's Support Groups in Columbus Metro Area

Family members are often thrust into the role as caregiver when a loved one has a chronic illness. Family caregivers have no training besides common sense and they face each day putting one foot in front of the other, doing the best they can.

This is where support groups can help. By providing a safe and private venue where others who are living with the same issues can meet, share stories, compare notes on how their loved one is doing, share information about favorite doctors, medications, and symptoms, support groups provide an essential outlet for the family caregiver.

Alzheimer's Support Groups

When caring for someone who has Alzheimer's or some form of dementia, it's important to find a support system built of those who understand. Alzheimer's Association support groups are conducted by trained facilitators. They are a safe space for people living with dementia and their care partners to:

  • Develop a support system
  • Exchange practical information on challenges and possible solutions
  • Talk through issues and ways of coping
  • Share feelings, needs and concerns
  • Learn about community resources
