Fun Winter Activities for Seniors and Kids

Winter can be a magical season, but the cold weather often keeps us indoors. If you’re a grandparent or caregiver with kids visiting for the holidays, finding activities that are engaging, safe, and fun for both seniors and children is key. Here are five creative indoor activities to enjoy together and make lasting memories.

1. Family Portrait Painting

Unleash your inner artist with this simple and fun project!

Print a family photo and trace it onto a canvas. To do this, shade the back of the paper with a pencil, place the photo on top of the canvas, and lightly sketch over the outlines to transfer the image.

Once the sketch is ready, grab some paints and start filling it in.

Finish by tracing the lines with black paint for a polished look.

This activity is perfect for all ages and gives everyone the chance to add their artistic touch, resulting in a meaningful keepsake to cherish. Here's an example of how the finished project might look: https://co.pinterest.com/pin/10766486602754277/

2. No-Bake Treats

Cooking is a wonderful way to bond, and no-bake desserts are perfect for seniors and kids.

Try making easy chocolate bars with mashed rice crackers, melted chocolate, and peanut butter.

Let the kids handle stirring and assembling while the adults assist with measuring and pouring.

This activity isn’t just delicious, it’s also a fun way to spark creativity in the kitchen! Here's an example: https://co.pinterest.com/pin/57069120271200569/. In the video, they used crisps, but you can substitute mashed rice crackers for a unique twist.

3. Snowball Toss

Bring some winter magic indoors with this sock-tossing game.

Roll up socks into “snowballs” and set up a basket or box as the target.

Take turns throwing the snowballs and add a small prize for the winner.

This activity is easy to set up, safe for all ages, and gets everyone moving!

4. Toilet Paper Roll Game

Turn an everyday household item into a fun and exciting competition!  Create a 'Land the Roll' game by setting up targets on a table and rolling toilet paper rolls toward them, just like in this video [Land the roll ]. Depending on the force, the roll will land on a target, revealing a hidden prize.  You can also turn it into a race by rolling the toilet paper back—check out how it’s done in this video [Toilet paper races].

It’s a simple and entertaining way to pass the time while keeping everyone engaged.

5. Dance Along to TikTok Trends

Why not give the latest TikTok trends a try?

Choose family-friendly dances and learn them together.

Dancing is great exercise for all ages and creates plenty of laughs along the way.
Even if you don’t post the videos, the experience is sure to be a memorable one!

Winter may keep you indoors, but it doesn’t have to limit your fun. Activities like painting, cooking, and games not only bring generations together but also ensure everyone stays entertained and engaged. These ideas create opportunities for laughter, creativity, and quality time during the holiday season.

Enjoy these moments and make this winter a season to remember!
