Right at Home Seattle Eastside Awarded Joint Commission Certificate
SEATTLE, Wash. March 9, 2023 – Right at Home Seattle Eastside and Pierce County has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for its Home Care Accreditation Program by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a healthcare organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.
Right at Home (Northwest Homecare & Staffing Services, LLC) underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review on January 12-13, 2023. During the visit, a nurse surveyor of The Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with Home Care Accreditation Program standards spanning several areas, which include but are not limited to the use of two patient identifiers, reconciling medication information, meeting hygiene guidelines, implementing fall reduction programs, and identifying risks associated with home oxygen.
The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with healthcare experts and providers, measurement experts, and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help healthcare organizations measure, assess and improve performance. The surveyor also conducted onsite observations and interviews.
“As a health care accreditor, The Joint Commission works with health care organizations across settings to help improve patient safety and quality of care through our expert resources and tools, innovative solutions and rigorous standards,” says Deborah Ryan, MS, RN, interim executive vice president, Accreditation and Certification Operations, The Joint Commission.
“Achieving Joint Commission accreditation demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement in patient care,” says Ben Solomon, owner and administrator of Right at Home Seattle Eastside and Pierce County. “Joint Commission accreditation tells your patients you're committed to providing safe, high-quality care — time after time.”
A lot of time and energy went into preparing for this review. The entire staff ran numerous emergency scenarios. For example, the organization identified risks for natural disasters and power outages, seeing the best course of action for staff and how we can best assist our most vulnerable clients, like making sure they have backup generators. There is a continued focus on infection prevention, especially following the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Right at Home Seattle Eastside and Pierce County continues to push to educate staff on hygiene practices and enforce staying home when care staff members feel sick or ill.
Right at Home’s mission is to improve the quality of life for those we serve, and we fulfill that mission through the right people caring for your loved one, providing the right services, and right approach to ensure your peace of mind.
