Barton Therapeutic Chair - a Hoyer Lift Alternative
The Barton chair is an amazing alternative for people for whom a Hoyer lift is undesirable. Unlike a Hoyer, it is a safe one-person transfer using a crank attached to the chair or the hospital bed (depending on the direction of the transfer) to transfer the patient using a slide sheet.
Here's a YouTube video we show clients/families on how the Barton chair works, https://youtu.be/GSuQP2VaxTo
Typically we will inform people about it, show them the video, run through the qualifications, and then connect them with Mark Drug Medical Supply, a MDE (Medical Durable Equipment) supply store, in Wheeling, serving the greater Chicago area for over the last 35 years.

- Patient requires a transfer between bed and chair/wheelchair/commode
- Patient is bed-bound without the use of a sling lift
- Patient requires supine/lateral transfers
- Patient is non-weight bearing

This chair made it possible to keep 2 of our past clients at home. Without it, we would have had to recommend a SNF (skilled nursing facility) placement or have two caregivers to assist them. I am a HUGE fan of this product. Another great thing about this chair is that Medicare does cover it for qualifying individuals!
Mark Drug Medical Supply comes out to our Skokie office about twice per year to show us equipment they have available and train us on its use. The most recent visit featured one of the hospital bed models and the Barton Therapeutic's Human Care chair.
