10 Years of Home Care Service

Proudly Serving the Community for 10 Years

Owners John and Kay Mykala

Right at Home of Jackson, Michigan is a family-run business owned by John and Kay Mykala. John and Kay purchased Right at Home in Jackson in April of 2008. After many rewarding and fulfilling years in the business, they were given the opportunity to purchase the Kalamazoo office in May of 2014. After experiencing the difference the Mykalas have made in the lives of their clients, they were honored and thrilled to take the chance to purchase the business.

Having the Right Team operating the office who share the same aspiration – “To Improve the Quality of Life for Those We Serve,” is a blessing. We truly believe being able to help a family member live safely and independently at home with our services is an honor to give them their individuality back. Quite often the Mykala family and friends ask about retirement, and they respond, “Why would we retire? If you find your calling in life, it is never considered working. Your job is enjoying what you do on a daily basis.”

Our History

During his years working as a hospital administrator, our founder Allen Hager watched many patients, especially seniors, leave the hospital and return home. But they did not necessarily return to health. Allen found that, once at home, a lot of his former patients were unable to care for themselves. He knew that with a little help, most of these people could lead healthy, happy lives in their homes. This became the idea for Right at Home.

After talking to dozens of families about the challenges they faced and what kinds of care would help, he became a certified nursing assistant to experience firsthand the needs of people who required professional assistance to continue living at home.

Today, with the help of Allen’s insights, Right at Home has grown to over 600 locations that serve tens of thousands of clients across the U.S. and around the world.

Our Mission

Put simply, our mission is to improve the quality of life for those we serve. Of course, we recognize that everyone’s idea of “quality of life” is different, which is why it’s so important to us to make you an active part of your own care plan. We want you to be in the driver’s seat regardless of any limitations or challenges you’re facing.

Most of all, we believe aging isn’t just about staying healthy, safe and independent. It’s also about living well.

Our Philanthropies

Right at Home’s mission is “to improve the quality of life for those we serve,” and expanding our mission to serve others around the world is truly a pleasure. We support many organizations that help people live independently.

Free Wheelchair Mission

Globally, an estimated 70 million people with disabilities have no access to a wheelchair. Those who cannot walk must crawl or be carried to their destination. In collaboration with a network of like-minded partners, Free Wheelchair Mission has distributed more than 1 million wheelchairs to people with disabilities in 93 developing countries around the world, providing renewed dignity, independence and hope through the gift of mobility, at no cost to the recipient.

As an organization, our work with Free Wheelchair Mission began in 2016 as we looked for a partner that would help us further our mission of improving lives worldwide. To date, our team’s efforts have raised more than $400,000 that has funded over 5,000 wheelchairs, which were distributed through life-changing Vision Trips to Vietnam, Ecuador and Costa Rica.

Josiah’s House

Over half of the children living in the Dominican Republic live below the poverty line and can be found on the streets in at-risk surroundings in order to make money. Josiah’s House runs family-style homes that provide vulnerable boys and girls with the basic necessities, education, life skills, and family home atmosphere needed to succeed.

Recently, 70 Right at Home offices came together to support Josiah’s House by supplying everyday items for the children of Josiah’s House. The group delivered suitcases full of clothing, personal hygiene items, toys, and other supplies.
