Course Description: Seventy percent (70%) of adults in the U.S. have experienced at least one traumatic event in their lives, and many have even lived for years with PTSD. This can become even more complicated in the elderly, especially if they start having problems with mental decline. In this webinar, we will discuss the etiology of trauma, signs and symptoms, forms of treatment and how you the caregiver can offer support for these individuals.
About the Instructor: Barbara Melton is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Private Practice in Summerville, SC. She specializes in working with clients who self-injure, suffer from trauma/loss, anxiety and depression. She has consulted with residential care facilities to assist with management of problem behaviors and has had personal experiences with family members who have similar issues. She has been an adjunct professor for Webster University, Coastal Carolina University, and Columbia College, teaching courses in Psychodiagnostics, Psychopathology, and Consultation/Clinical Supervision. She is also the Past President of the SC Assn for Licensed Professional Counselors. She has also presented at state and national conferences on a variety of topics.
